A question we often get get asked here at Punch Technology is "can I upgrade my memory" as customers often believe rightly that they can improve performance on their personal computer by upgrading their RAM.
Purchasing new Random Access Memory is one of the best and most cost effective ways to increase performance of a computer, but it is very important to ensure that the RAM is compatible, not only with any existing RAM on the PC but also with the motherboard itself.
At Punch we test all of our Memory in Pairs before we install into a build. Our system technicians do extensive testing on RAM and we ensure that it is matched not only by part number but also by batch number.
If you are looking to upgrade your RAM, then there are other important considerations it will also need to match the type as well as the size of RAM.
- DDR2 SDRAM: This technology is commonly found in computers that are made after 2003.
- DDR3 SDRAM: It is suitable for those computers made after 2007.
- DDR4 SDRAM: It is the newest RAM type, and if your computer is still under warranty, and you bought it from us at Punch Technology this is the most likely type of RAM that your PC will contain.
The easiest and by far the quickest way to find out if your RAM is compatible is to send us a picture of the RAM, which includes the serial number on it. This serial also contains a batch number which we will match. If we have it in stock then we can sell it to you, in most cases it is best to buy RAM in memory pairs.
A picture like this will help us to identify the batch, (underlined in yellow in this example) If you know you are looking for a memory upgrade, firstly you should send a picture like this of your memory into the support desk with this information on and we will be able to help you get the correct and compatible RAM memory for your computer.
